Lady Hornets Finish 2nd At NTL Championships

The Wellsboro Girls Track team brought home a 2nd place finish at the NTL Championships on Friday, May 10.

The Lady Hornets scored 104 points, finishing behind Athens (154). Northeast Bradford and Wyalusing tied for 3rd (79), Williamson was 5th (64), Troy came home 6th (57), North Penn-Mansfield finished 7th (52), Canton came home 8th (51), Towanda finished 9th (46), and Sayre rounded out the field with 11 points.

"I am very proud of both teams," head coach Elizabeth Hoover said. "We had PRs despite the weather. These athletes have worked very hard this year and both teams ended the regular season with second place finishes."

Sophomore Taylor Main (18.78) and senior Sara Seeling (19.07) finished 9th and 10th in the 100m hurdles, freshman Piper Hoprich broke her school record in the 100m (12.42) with sophomore Sophia Yoder (13.77) placing 8th, Hoprich (26.36) and Yoder (28.80) were 2nd and 6th in the 200m, seniors Maddy Mascho (1:12.46) and Isobel Anderegg (1:14.36) were 14th and 15th in the 400m, and Seeling (51.80) was 4th in the 300m hurdles.

Sophomore Makenna Robbins (3:02.95) placed 13th in the 800m, freshman Lauren Kosek was 3rd in the 1600m (5:27.14) and 3rd in the 3200m (11:35.91).

Wellsboro won the 4x100m relay (52.37), took 6th in the 4x400m (4:41.16), and 5th in the 4x800m (11:46.82).

Junior Annie Gehman won the triple jump (35-ft, 1) while freshmen Jadyn Dunlap (30-ft, 6.5) and Megan Newruck (30-ft, 5.5) were 7th and 8th, Gehman (4-ft, 10) and sophomore Kristina Belz (4-ft, 8) were 2nd and 3rd in the high jump, Gehman placed 3rd in the long jump (15-ft, 11), and sophomore Megan Mosher (6-ft, 6) finished 13th in the pole vault.

Seeling (104-ft, 11) won gold in the javelin with junior Paige Logsdon (92-ft, 10) taking 6th, senior Grace Harlan (28-ft, 6.75) finished 7th in the shot put, and senior Hannah Gilmour (84-ft, 8.5) was 7th in the discus.

The Lady Hornets will be back in action next week at the District IV Track & Field Championships at Williamsport.
