Wellsboro suffered a 49-0 defeat in their first-ever meeting with Mount Carmel Friday in the opening round of the District IV Class 3A playoffs at The Silver Bowl.
The Red Tornadoes scored on six of their seven first-half possessions to build a 42-0 lead at halftime and enact the second half mercy rule with condensed quarters.
On their first drive Jaylen Delaney connected with Aidan Brokenshire on a 58-yard touchdown pass with 9:21 on the clock. Delaney then ran in from a yard out for MCA's second score, following a 32-yard hook up with Brokenshire one-play earlier, making it 14-0.
Mount Carmel struck again with 3:49 remaining in the first frame on a 62-yard run from Cooper Karycki to push the lead to 21-0.
They later struck on the first play of the second quarter, following a Wellsboro turnover, on a 25-yard pass from Delaney to Jason Klokis, then quickly made it 35-0 not even three minutes later on a 2-yard Delaney pass to Karycki.
Delany later capped the first-half scoring with a 34-yard run with 5:05 remaining to make it 42-0.
Austin Ventilli scored the game's only second-half points on a one-yard run with 2:49 remaining in the game.
The Hornets end their 2026 campaign with a 4-7 (4-4 NTL Large School Division) record.
