Lady Hornets Win Tunkhannock Volleyball Tournament

The Wellsboro Lady Hornet Volleyball team captured the Tunkhannock Tournament championships Saturday, defeating the tournament hosts 2-1 in the finals.

Wellsboro went 11-2 on the day.

"This was a huge bounce back after our loss to Towanda," head coach Darci Pollock said. "We played better as a unit and fixed some things defensively. The girls improved throughout the day and really worked together to finish strong. This team has so much potential and I cannot wait to see what they accomplish this year."

In pool play the Lady Hornets tied Montrose (1-1), then defeated Susquehanna Community (2-0), Dunmore (2-0) and Tunkhannock (2-0). In their semi-final match they downed Montorse 2-0, before squaring back off against host Tunkhannock.

Junior Jillian Mickey 22 points, 4 aces, 49 assists, and 16 digs, junior Peyton Keane had 19 points, 28 kills, and 35 digs, senior Ellie Largey scored 14 points (4 aces) to go along with 41 assists and 12 digs, junior Kendall Sweet registered 29 points, 8 aces, 17 kills, and 23 digs, and junior Adelyn Frantz had 33 points, 11 aces, 24 kills, 6 blocks, and 12 digs.

The Lady Hornets (1-1, 1-1 NTL Large School Division) return to regular play Tuesday against Northeast Bradford.
