The Wellsboro Volleyball team battled back to defeat Troy 3-2 last night to advance to the District finals.
The team won the first set 26-24, but was blown out in the second 25-4. The Hornets rebounded to take the third set 25-23, but lost the fourth 25-22. In the final set, the Hornets worked their magic and claimed the victory with a 16-14 win.
Senior Mackenzie Marple said the team "woke up" after the lopsided second set loss.
"We were just mad," Marple said. "We just got very angry after that game."
Senior Hannah Zuchowski echoed Marple's thoughts.
"After it was 1 to 10 I just wanted to move on to the next game," Zuchowski said.
The key to the Hornets victory was the serving by Senior Breyann Campbell, who scored 11 points for the Hornets. Zuchowski had 30 kills, 32 digs, and 9 points. Marple had 7 kills and 26 assists, Junior Katie Straniere had 30 digs, Junior Alex Kurtz had 21 assists, and Senior Shelby Young had 3 blocks in the match.
With the win, the Hornets advance to the District IV championship against rival Mansfield. Game time is set for 6:30 p.m. today.
