For the second straight game, the Lady Hornets dropped a close game, this time to Towanda by losing 50-48.
"It was another disappointing loss," said head coach Mary Grab. "We had periods of great intensity, both defensively and offensively coupled with times when we weren't as focused and had trouble taking care of the ball.
"We defeated ourselves with turnovers. That said, everyone contributed and played hard," continued Grab.
The Lady Hornets were tied 19-19 going into halftime, but Towanda exploded for 23 points in the third quarter.
"When you go into a fourth quarter down by 12, and pull ahead by 2, that says a lot about the girl's determination," said Grab.
Senior Guard Mackenzie Marple led the Lady Hornets with 25 points, and went a perfect 8-8 from the foul line, to keep Wellsboro in the game. Senior Kimberly Acorn was the second leading scorer with 9 points, and Freshman Jada Jackson added 8.
"We've had three very close losses; I feel certain that we'll use those experiences to grow stronger and come out on the winning end more and more often as the season progresses," Grab concluded.
In the JV game, the Lady Hornets won 38-29 to improve to 5-0. Jada Jackson was the high scorer with 15 points and Freshman Sarah Ingerick added 11.
With the loss, the Varsity team falls to 1-4 overall. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, December 18 as they travel to Canton.
