The Wellsboro Lady Hornets dropped their opening round game of the Montoursville Tournament to Williamsport.
The Lady Hornets held a one point lead after the first quarter, but went cold from the floor and allowed Williamsport back in the game, as they took a 15-12 lead into halftime. The Lady Hornets were able to keep the game close in the third quarter and made a run to get within two points of Williamsport late in the fourth quarter, but time ran out and Williamsport held on to the 42-40 win.
"The girls played hard and everyone contributed, but in the end, silly turnovers and missed scoring opportunities did us in," said head coach Mary Grab.
Senior Mackenzie Marple led the Lady Hornets in scoring with 19 points. Freshman Sarah Ingerick added 11 points, Senior Kimberly Acorn had 5, Senior Hannah Zuchowski recoreded 4, and Senior Kiana Acorn had 1 point.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 2-7 on the year. The team will be back in action Friday afternoon against Troy.
