The Wellsboro Middle School girls basketball team finished in third place at the NTL tournament over the weekend. In the first game, Wellsboro beat Wyalusing 19-12 to move into the Final 4. Jada Jackson had 4 points and 7 rebounds in that game.
In the Final 4 matchup, Wellsboro ended up losing to Athens in overtime, 24-22. Sarah Ingerick launched a long three point attempt at the end of overtime, which almost went, but rolled off the rim. Sarah Ingerick had 8 points and Jenny Young added 6. Coming off the loss to Athens, the Hornets faced rival North Penn in the third place game, and went on to win 46-23.
After being tied up 15-15 at the half, Wellsboro turned up the man-to-man defensive pressure in the 3rd quarter, which led to a lot of turnovers and fast break opportunities. The Hornets scored 19 points in the 3rd quarter alone and held North Penn to just 3 points to blow the game wide open. Alexa Singer scored 13 points, Jada Jackson scored 11, and Sarah Ingerick scored 8.
"This group of girls play so well together. They play hard all the time and they all support each other," said head coach Darrell Morris. "It was a very exciting season and this group of 8th graders should be fun to watch at the high school level the next 4 years."
