The Wellsboro Varsity girls soccer team dropped a close game to Athens, falling 1-0 in league play on Monday night.
The Lady Hornets held the undefeated Athens' girls scoreless up until 14:32 remaining in the second half when Mackenzie Warner found the back of the net. Athens out shot Wellsboro 14-11 and had a 4-3 corner kick advantage.
Junior Meghan Bodine recorded 9 saves in goal for the Lady Hornets.
In the J.V. game, Athens topped Wellsboro 3-0.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 4-8-1 (3-7-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, October 2 as they travel to Northeast Bradford.
