Girls track captures NTL Championship

The Wellsboro Lady Hornet track team captured the NTL title on Saturday, May 10.

The Lady Hornets scored 123 points to capture their third consecutive title, and fourth in five years. Wyalusing finished in second with 108 points and North Penn and Athens tied for third with 100.

Murphy's Law seemed to be in affect during the meet, as the Lady Hornets dealt with two rain delays and losing Senior Kaelyn Keane to injury.

"I told the girls yesterday that things won't go as planned throughout the meet, but whatever happens just keep your head up, stay focused and things might work out in the end," said head coach Jeff Zuchowski. "Each girl did an excellent job today. Every little point counted.

"We didn't have a ton of first place finishes but we had the depth to overcome that," Zuchowski continued.

Junior Lauren Bleggi took 2nd in the 100m (13.17) and 3rd in the 200m (27.7). Sophomore Lindsey Graver was 2nd in the 400m (1:02.38), Junior Annie Sweeney was 6th in the 800m (2:40.09), and Sophomores Camryn Keane (5:54.82) and Samantha Bailey (5:56.17) finished 3rd and 4th in the 1600m run.

Keane finished 5th in the 3200m run at 13:33.15 with Bailey in 7th at 13:54.14. Junior Elise Becker was 6th in the 100m hurdles (17:56), and Sophomore Raisa Rogers was 4th in the 300m hurdles (51.92).

The 4x100m realy team of Sophomores Riley Kitchen and Joey Taft, Rogers, and Bleggi took home 1st in 53.29.

Sophomore Mikayla Feil was 5th in the high jump (4' 9") with Rogers behind her in 6th, Taft finished 7th in the pole vault (7' 6"), Bleggi was 3rd in the long jump (15' 11"), and Sophomore Jada Jackson won the triple jump at 36' 3".

Senior Alex Kurtz was 1st in the shot put (31' 9") and 2nd in the javelin (103' 10").
