The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team improved to 3-0 as they defeated Northern Potter 1-0 on Monday, September 8.
"Tonight was a strong performance in two thirds of the field," said head coach John Shaffer. "Defensively the boys worked hard and were well organized."
The Hornets struck in the 35th minute as Junior Dawson Prough scored off an assist from Junior Tucker Worthington for the only goal of the game.
Wellsboro out shut Northern Potter 21-4 and had a 7-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior Jake Mitchell stopped 3 shots in net for the game to earn his third shut out of the season.
"We created a lot of opportunities in the middle third but we could not finish in the final third," continued Shaffer. "We took 21 shots and we only forced five saves. We have to make the most of our chances, if we can do that we will be dangerous."
In the JV game, the Hornets won 1-0 behind a goal from Freshman Noah Fitch.
With the win, the Hornets improve to 3-0 (3-0 NTL). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, September 10 as they travel to Sayre.
