Hornet track tops Sayre

The Wellsboro Varsity boys and girls track team came home victorious Monday, April 14 against Sayre.

The boys team defeated Sayre, 82-68. Senior Joey Doganiero won the 400m in 52.7 and Junior Kieron Smethers was third in 54.7. Junior Jack Chambers (44.5) and Sophomore Rich Tardieu (45.6) took home the top two spots in the 300m hurdles, Doganeiro won the 800m in 2:14, and Senior Dan Brooks won the 200m in 26.1 followed by Senior Blair Carson in 27.0.

Carson won the 110m hurdles in 18.4 followed by Chambers in second at 18.8, Brooks won the 100m run in 12.2 followed by Juniors Michael Pietropola (12.4) and Nick Marple (12.6). Marple won the javelin in 159' 9.5", Senior Blake Gamble won the shot put in 43' 5.25" followed by Juniors Bill Lupokowski (36' 6.5") and Ben Davis (36' 5.5"), and Gamble was second in the discus at 103' 7".

The boys also won two of the three realy events with the 4x100m team running 47.8 and the 4x400m at 3:45.1.

The girls team beat Sayre, 89-60. Sophomore Jada Jackson won the 100m run in 14.0 followed by Junior Lauren Bleggi at 14.1, Sophomores Camryn Keane (6:29) and Samantha Bailey (6:43.8) were second and third in the 1600m run, Sophomore Lindsey Graver was second in the 400m in 1:05.5, and Sophomore Haley Zuchowski was second in the 300m hurdles at 52.5.

Junior Annie Sweeney was second in the 800m run at 2:50.7 and Camryn Keane third at 2:55.6, Jackson (28.0) and Graver (29.1) finished one-two in the 200m run, and Sophomore Jordyn Coffee won the 3200m run at 14:13.1.

The Lady Hornets won the 4x800m relay in 12:01.4, Seniors Kaelyn Keane (93' 10") and Alex Kurtz (84' 11") were second and third in the javelin, Jackson won the shot put in 29' 6.25" with Kurtz in second at 29' 6", and Senior Katie Straniere won the discus with a throw of 77' 5.5".

Wellsboro swept the high jump with Kaelyn Keane (4' 10"), and Sophomores Raisa Rogers and Mikayla Feil (4' 8"), Sophomore Joey Taft was second in the pole vault at 7' 6", Graver won the long jump in 15' 4", and Jackson won the triple jump in 33' 6".

The boys improve to 3-1 (3-1 NTL) while the girls remain undefeated at 4-0 (4-0 NTL). Both teams will be on the road this Saturday, April 19 at Shippensburg University for the Jack Roddick Invite.
