The Wellsboro Varsity wrestling team dropped an NTL match to rival North Penn on Saturday, 52-10.
The match started at 120 lbs. with the Panthers taking the first seven matches. Freshman Blaze Coolidge lost by pin at 2:41 to start the contest, followed by Tyler Evans losing a 5-1 decision at 126 lbs. Freshman Samantha Spurgeon was pinned in 47 seconds at 132 lbs., Senior Brandon Owlett lost a 9-4 decision at 145 lbs., and Junior Jack Chambers lost by major decision at 152 lbs.
The Hornets got their first win of the match at 170 lbs. as Freshman Dominic Spencer won a 15-4 major decision over Harvey Wood. Freshman Kaleb Smith pinned North Penn's Levi Adams in 1:59 at 220 lbs. for the other Hornet victory.
In the Middle School match the Hornets lost a close match, 30-24.
With the loss, the Hornets fall to 0-13 (0-7 NTL). The team will be back in action on Thursday, January 30 as they travel to Northeast Bradford.
