The Wellsboro Varsity wrestling team's struggles continued as they lost to Troy, 58-6 on Monday, January 13.
The Hornets were victorious in one match, while Troy took the other 11. There were also two double forfeits on the night at 138 lbs. and 160 lbs.
The Hornets' only victory on the night came from Senior Nate Ingerick, as he pinned Troy's Jared Spalding in 3:46.
In the Middle School match, the Hornets won 37-36 on criteria to improve to 1-3 on the year.
Over the weekend, the Hornets competed in the Hornell State Farm Classic, coming home 13th with 47 points. Senior Brandon Owlett had the best day on the mat, going 4-0 at 152 lbs. to earn first place in his weight class. Freshman Blaze Coolidge went 1-2 at 120 lbs., Sophomore Tyler Evans was 0-2 at 126 lbs., Ingerick was 2-2 at 132 lbs., Freshman Samantha Spurgeon was 0-2 at 138 lbs., Junior Jack Chambers was 1-2 at 145 lbs., and Freshman Aaron Buckwalter was 0-2 at 160 lbs.
Freshman Dominic Spencer went 1-2 at 182 lbs., Freshman Kaleb Smith was 0-2 at 220 lbs., and Sophomore Owen Covert was 1-2 at 285 lbs.
With the loss to Troy, the Hornets fall to 0-4 (0-3 NTL). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, January 14 as they host Sayre.
