Senior defender and captain Emilie Kramer was selected to the All-State girls soccer team this past weekend.
"Emilie is by far one of the best players around and is a leader both on and off the field," said her second-year head coach Mike Hotchkiss. "In the league all-star meeting over the weekend, she received the most votes and easily received the #1 pick for All-State player from the NTL."
"Being selected really means a lot to me," Kramer said.
Kramer, a four-year member of the Lady Hornets, is the last line of defense before Freshman Goal Keeper Kailee Clymer and her defensive play this year has been one of the reasons why Wellsboro has allowed the fewest goals in the past few seasons.
Despite falling to South Williamsport in the first round of District IV playoffs on Wednesday, October 22, the Lady Hornets notched an 11-6-1 (11-4-1 NTL) record, the best in the program's 11-year history since the 2009 season. That year they finished 12-6-1 (12-5-1) under Maryann Wilcox.
"Emilie was a major factor in preventing goals and has played almost every minute of this season," continued Hotchkiss.
In Kramer's first three seasons, all of which the Lady Hornets have failed to finish above .500, she has played for three different head coaches. This year, Kramer notes that there is better chemistry on the team.
"This year Coach Hotchkiss knew how we played and he knew where everyone fit in. Starting the year we knew what we had to work on to improve from last season instead of trying to figure it out as we went along," continued Kramer. "We also knew how coach worked and we just 'clicked' better this year than last year. We're all kind of goofy and are a close-knit group."
WellsboroAthletics.com would like to congratulate Emilie on being selected All-State and would like to congratulate her, and the rest of the Lady Hornet Soccer team, on a great 2014 season.
