The Wellsboro Varsity girls basketball team fell to Troy 41-39 in the final seconds Saturday night.
The Lady Hornets held an 11 point lead going into the fourth quarter, but were outscored by the Trojans 19-6 in the final frame. Troy's Kelsey Bristol tied the game at 36 in the fourth as she hit a three and then Faith Ceely converted on a three-point play to put the Trojans up by three. A Kelsey Bristol free throw had Troy up four before Wellsboro cut it to the final score with a basket by Sophomore Jada Jackson.
The loss could be big, as the Lady Hornets fall a game below .500 as they look to qualify for District IV playoffs.
Sophomore Sarah Ingerick led the way with 18 points and Sophomore Alexa Singer had 9. Jackson finished with four, Juniors Peyton Wilson and Jordan Butters each had three, and Senior Brooke Kohler finished with two points.
In the J.V. game the Lady Hornets won 31-15. Sophomore Jenny Young had 9 to lead the team.
With the loss, the Lady Hornets fall to 9-11 (4-4 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Wednesday, Febraury 5 as they travel to Wyalusing.
