By: Ed Weaver | PIAA District IV | February 8, 2014

The Wellsboro Lady Hornets scored 20 points in the final quarter Friday night to rally for a 52-50 win against Williamson.

The win keeps the team's District playoff hopes alive, but need they need to win their final regular season game against Wyalusing next week to qualify for post-season play.

Williamson jumped out to a 10-4 first quarter lead but Wellsboro cut into it by halftime, 23-20. Williamson would get some breathing space after the third quarter, taking a 38-32 lead into the final frame.

In the fourth Williamson would extend the lead to 41-32 behind a Makayla Buttz three pointer but Wellsboro would go on to score eight straight points to cut it to 40-41.

After trading buckets the two teams would knot up at 41-all.

The Lady Hornets would push ahead for a 46-43 lead behind Sophomore Sarah Ingerick and would keep that lead to 50-47. A Danielle Cross three by the Warriors knotted the game up again at 50 but a bucket by Sophomore Alexa Singer put Wellsboro back up.

A Buttz jumper late was off the mark and Wellsboro escaped with the win.

Ingerick led the Lady Hornets with 24 points and five steals, Sophomore Jada Jackson added 10 points and nine rebounds. Singer and Junior Jordan Butters had six points each, Senior Brooke Kohler scored four, and Junior Peyton Wilson added two.

In the J.V. game the Lady Hornets won 36-21. Sophomore Raisa Rogers led all scorers with 16 points.

With the win, the Lady Hornets improve to 10-11 (5-4 NTL Division 1). The team will be back in action on Tuesday, February 11 as they travel to Wyalusing.
