The Wellsboro Middle School girls basketball team defeated Williamson 32-7 as the Wyalusing Tournament on Saturday to take third place.
In their first game, the Lady Hornets defeated host Wyalusing 46-26, but lost to Loyalsock 43-22 in their second game.
"We had a good day at the Wyalusing Tournament," said head coach Darrell Morris. "After being down 10-6 to Wyalusing at the end of the first quarter, we just exploded offensively and scored a season high 46 points. Our girls really ran the floor well it was great to play so well against a solid Wyalusing team.
"Against Loyalsock, we struggled with their quickness, had a difficult time getting into out offensive sets, and then we had foul trouble right from the start. I have to give our girls a lot of credit. We only had 5 minutes from the end of the game with Loyalsock until the tip for the Williamson game and our girls stepped up and played well to take the 3rd place trophy home."
Rachael Tuttle led the Lady Hornets on the day with 31 points and 41 rebounds, including 17 points and 21 rebounds against Wyalusing. Lizzie Poirier had 21 points, 8 assists, 8 rebounds, Brianne Keane had 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Sydney Tremper scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds.
Alyssa Yungwirth recorded 7 points, 5 steals, and 8 rebounds, Emma Poirier had 6 points, 3 assists, 3 rebounds, Jillian Graver had 2 points and 3 rebounds, Dani Hunt added 2 points and 1 rebound, Elizabeth Johns chipped in with 2 points and 2 rebounds, and Katelyn Huck and Hayley Widows grabbed 1 rebound each.
With the wins, the Lady Hornets improve to 7-3. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, March 4 as they host North Penn.
