Hornet boys win Lasagna Relays

The Wellsboro Cross Country teams participated in a new format at Wyalusing's Lasagna Invite (Relays) on Thursday, September 8.

The new relay format had each team member running a 2 mile leg. The Varsity boys teams competed in a field comprised of 22 teams from 11 schools. The team of junior Connor Brought, freshman Austin Richards, senior Alden Weiner, and sophomore Aidan Perry were 1st overall with a time of 44:59. The team of junior Michael Stefanowicz, sophomore Bergen Weiner, sophomore Zack Busch, and senior Bryon Callahan were 8th overall with a time of 48:23.

The Varsity girls field was made up of 14 teams from 9 schools. The team of junior Anna Bleggi, sophomore Rachel Chamberlain, sophomore Taylor Romania, and freshman Kayla Mengee finished 5th with a time of 59:43, while the team of sophomore Kara Doane, freshman Kylie Butler, freshman Maddie Mann, and freshman Jaime Palmer finished 8th with a total time of 1:01.

In addition to the 8 mile relay, other members of the team ran in an individual 2 mile race of 31 runners. Freshman Lucas Citrino was 4th (13:25), sophomore Taylor Wheeler finished 9th (13:58), freshman Tyren Wetzel came home 14th (15:09), and freshman Emma Palmer crossed the line in 26th (17:39).

In the Middle School race, the boys team of Aidan Fletcher, Aidan Coffee, Anthony Romania, and Connor Owlett placed 8th and the girls team of Tessa Bailey, Aislinn Hoose, Hope Sampson, and Alexis Banik were 5th.

The team will start the normal meet schedule on Tuesday, September 13 at Athens.
