The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team broke a three-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over Sullivan County on Friday, September 9.
After an early goal by Sullivan County's Tyler Lovelady at 32:24, the Hornets rebounded just under two minutes later on a goal from senior Josiah Hill with an assist from sophomore Holden Kennedy to tie it up at 1-1. Then 10 minutes later, Hill and Kennedy connected again for Hill's second goal of the game to make it 2-1, Hornets.
"The boys showed a lot of character being able to play two games in two days," said head coach John Shaffer. "We went down 1-nil on a crazy goal but came back and answered right away. I hope our first win send us on our way now."
Hill's two goal on the afternoon give him 3 on the year and 56 for his career. Hill is now tied with Darby Alafoginis for the all-time lead in career goals in Wellsboro history.
Senior Casey Hoover recorded 9 saves in goal and the Hornet out-shot Sullivan County 14-6, and had a 9-7 advantage in corner kicks.
The Hornets also won the JV game on the afternoon, 1-0 to improve to 3-1. Sophomore Adam Cornell scored the game's only goal and junior Brandon Plume had the assist.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 1-3. The team will be back in action on Tuesday, September 13 against Williamson at Mansfield University.
