The Wellsboro Varsity Cross Country teams each brought home top 10 finishes at the NEPA Invite on Saturday, October 1.
"The kids dug deep and posted course or season PR's by almost every member of the team," said head coach Ron Brought. "We are presently in the midst of our toughest training cycle with the goal of peaking later this month. The team competed in a fatigued state due to their current workload and were still able to exceed my expectations. This course has a reputation of running 'long' yet we still posted strong times. I'm very optimistic about what we'll accomplish the next time we run this course at the District IV championship meet."
In the boys race, the Hornets finished 8th out of 23 teams. Sophomore Aidan Perry (17:29) came home 4th out of 165 runners. Junior Connor Brought (18:12) was 25th, freshman Austin Richards (19:26) was 70th, senior Alden Weiner (19:39) was 84th, sophomore Bergen Weiner (19:47) was 89th, sophomore Zack Busch (20:06) was 100th, and junior Logan Morral (23:42) was 142nd.
In the girls race, the Lady Hornets came home 10th out of 16 teams. Junior Anna Bleggi (21:38) was the top finisher in 23rd, freshman Kayla Mengee (22:29) was 36th, freshman Jaime Palmer (23:11) was 58th, sophomore Rachel Chamberlain (24:03) was 73rd, freshman Kylie Butler (24:48) was 87th, and freshman Emma Palmer (27:34) was 119th.
In the Middle School races, the Middle School boys finished 17th out of 17 teams and the girls were 20th out of 21 teams. Cameron Campbell (12:45) was the top finishing boy in 114th and Aislinn Hoose (14:24) was the top girl in 118th.
