The Wellsboro Varsity Football team rolled to their seventh straight win of the season in a 64-0 defeat of Cowanesque Valley on Friday, October 7.

The Hornets racked up 360 yards of total offense, compared to CV's 86, on the night and scored 9 times in all phases of the game: offense, defense, and special teams for their fifth shutout of the year. Through 7 games this season, the Hornets have only allowed 27 points (3.85 per game).

After an 8-play drive by CV to open the game, their longest of the night, junior Alex Kozuhowski returned a Kurtis Easton punt 90 for a touchdown with 8:01 left in the opening quarter. Junior Nic Ingerick's extra point was wide of the mark, and Wellsboro led 6-0.

Wellsboro wasted little time adding their second touchdown of the night. Junior Quinn Henry connected with junior Dalton Prough for a 9 yard gain, senior Dupree Hosey and Henry rushed for 4 and 12 yards and sophomore Robert Brown punched the ball in from 3 yards out to make it 14-0 after senior Brandon Lamphier caught the edge on a two-point conversion to make it 14-0 with 4:28 remaining in the first.

After the Hornets defense forced a 3-and-out on a 10 yard sack by Brown on CV's ensuing drive, the offense went back to work as Henry found junior Chase Moser for a gain of 25 yards down to the CV 15-yard line, then Henry connected with Lamphier in the middle of the field to make the score 21-0 to start the second quarter after senior Jacob Singer's extra point.

The Hornets added their second touchdown of the quarter on a 28 yard run by Henry to make it 29-0 after Henry snuck his way from 3 yards out for the two-point conversion with 8:17 on the clock, then just over 3 minutes later Henry found Lamphier for the second time of the night from 2 yards out to make it 37-0 after junior Collin Pietropola's two-point run. Wellsboro scored two more times before the first half ended, once on a 35 yard pass from Henry to Lamphier for their third score of the night to make it 44-0 and senior Kaleb Smith recovered a Drew Brandes fumble and returned it 16 yards to make it 51-0 with 48 seconds remaining. Singer attempted and made both extra points.

Welsboro scored two more times of the night in the third quarter. Kozuhowski started the quarter with a 56 yard run untouched into the end zone with 11:29 remaining and freshman Clayton Orsborn scored from 37 yards out with 3:59 to push the score to 64-0 Hornets.

Henry finished 7-for-11 through the air for 100 yards and 3 touchdowns, he also rushed 3 times for 43 yards and a score. Kozuhowski and Orsborn both finished with 56 yards, and Hosey ran the ball 5 times for 55 yards. Lamphier led all receivers with 4 catches for 59 yards and 3 scores while Prough (9), Moser (25), and Hosey (7) all caught passes on the night.

Defensively, senior Parker Jones had 9 tackles and a forced fumble to lead the team. Junior Brent English had 8 tackles, Robert Brown had 7 tackles and a sack, Pietropola had 6 tackes, and sophomore Hunter Brown made 3 tackles and had a sack.

The win improves the Hornets' record to 7-0 (7-0 NTL) on the year. The team will be back in action on Friday, October 14 at Mansfield University for Homecoming against Montgomery.
