Hornets stomp Wyalusing

A 30-point first quarter gave the Wellsboro Varsity Boys Basketball team an easy win over the Wyalusing Rams on Thursday, December 22.

The Hornets hit 7 three-pointers in the opening quarter, including three from senior Jacob Singer, to open up a huge marin between their NTL Large School Division opponent. Wellsboro scored in double figures each quarter and held Wyalusing to under 10 points in the first three quarters.

Wellsboro scored 15 second quarter points to extend their lead to 45-17 at halftime, then outscored Wyalusing 33-20 in the second half to claim their 5th straight win, all while scoring 72+ points in every game.

4 Hornets scored in double-figures on the night, led by Singer with 15 points (all three-pointers). Junior Dalton Prough finished off his 65-point week with 11, and juniors Collin Pietropola and Nic Ingerick each finished with 10 points. Sophomore Brandyn Tuttle scored 7 off the bench, sophomore Andrew Brelo had 6, senior Brandon Lamphier had 5, sophomore Holden Kennedy scored 4, sophomore Tanner Button had 3, and sophomore Bergen Weiner rounded out the scoring with 2.

Lamphier and Singer each had 4 assists, Pietropola had 8 revounds, Tuttle had 7 rebounds, and Prough finished with 5 steals.

In the JV game, the Horents (5-0) won 54-20. Brelo led the Hornets with 16 points, followed by Tuttle with 14, Kennedy with 5, and freshman Carson Davis with 4. Freshman Tyren Wetzel hit a three-pointer late in the game for this first points of the season.

Wellsboro (6-1, 4-0 NTL) will be back in action on Tuesday, December 27 against Montoursville.
