The Athens and Troy girls soccer teams played to a 1-1 tie after 100 minutes on Saturday, September 23.

Athens' Ariana Gambrell scored off a thru ball from Hannah Blackmon to make it 1-0 Wildcats at the half. Athens drew blood again in the second, but had a goal taken away from a free kick that we were offsides.

Troy scored in the second as Riley McClellan drew a penalty kick and sank the goal. Both teams had chances with both keepers making good saves and hitting the crossbar and posts.

Athens took 20 shots and 6 corners. Kara Chapman made 8 saves.

"I am really pleased with the effort the girls put in after coming off another double OT game Thursday night," Athens' coach Rich Pitts said. "We had great mentality and are confident we can finish the season on a high note. This includes reaching all the goals we set preseason. These games only help us, hats off to Troy for the battle they gave us today. We look forward to the re match at home and invite all our supporters and student body to come cheer us on."

"Today we got to see how we stack up against a high quality team," said EJ head coach Valeria Dressler. "The girls did exactly what we talk about and teach everyday. They had strong build-ups on the field and capitalized on their chances in front of the net. We are very happy where we are at in the season."
