Athens wins big over Sayre

The Athens Lady Wildcats rolled to a big win over the Sayre Redskins and have yet to give up a goal while Northeast Bradford needed two overtime periods to defeat North Penn-Mansfield on Saturday, September 16.
Athens 9, Sayre 0
The Lady Wildcats continued their shutout streak by holding Sayre to just 1 shot attempt with 0 corner kicks for their third straight win. Athens took 51 shots in the 80 minutes of play, 36 of which were on goal, and took 7 corners.
Rachel Hutchison scored the first of her 4 goals just over two minutes into the game to put Athens up. Emily Lunger gave Athens a 2-0 lead with 18:39 left in the first and Araianna Gambrell made it 3-0 before back-to-back goals by Emma Roe made it 5-0.
Lunger scored her second goal 9 minutes into the second half and Hutchison finished the game off with second half hat trick.
Camry Lane (16) and Blair Wampole (11) combined for 27 saves for Sayre while Athens' Kara Chapman made one save in goal.
Northeast Bradford 2, North Penn-Mansfield 1 (2OT)
The Lady Tigers took the lead with 16:13 remaining in the first half as Kiersten Mitstifer scored off a Eva Rice assist. Rice attempted a penalty kick to try and pad the Tigers' lead, but NEB's Kiah Russell came up with a big diving save to clear the ball.
Mansfield controlled all but the last 10 minutes of the game and eventually NEB's Josie Haverly capitalized and tied it up at 1-1 with under two minutes remaining to send the game into overtime. The first overtime period was scoreless forcing a second overtime. Two minutes in, Russell came out of the goal to score the game-winner assisted Haverly.
NEB outshot Mansfield 22-14 and had a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks. Russell made 10 saves for NEB while her teammate Leighann Vanderpool blocked 3 shots. Mansfield's Alaina McKee made 20 saves on the day.
East Juniata 6, Muncy 0
EJ's Hailey Swartz recorded a hat trick as the Lady Tigers took 40 shots on goal to down Muncy. Swartz's first goal came in the third minute on an assist from Thea Neimond. Neimond then scored in the 18th minute with help from Kierstyn Fogle to make it 2-0. Paige Crissman scored off a Neimond assist in the 34th minute to put EJ up 3-0 at the half.
Swartz scored back-to-back goals, both assisted by Emily Wert, in the 63rd and 72nd minutes to make it 5-0. Wert scored EJ's final goal with 36 seconds remaining.
EJ's Lily Sankey made 2 saves in goal and Muncy made 3 saves.
Wellsboro 5, Towanda 3
The Lady Hornets won a back-and-forth game with two goals each by Emma Poirier and Kerrah Clymer.
Poirier scored the game's first goal on a penalty kick but a Towanda goal by Shaelynn Chandler tied the game up a minute later. Wellsboro then retook the lead in the sixth minute as Jena Boyce connected with Clymer to make it 2-1. The Lady Hornets' lead didn't last long as Towanda's Teagan Willey scored in the 15th minute to tie it back up at 2-2.
The score remained tied as the first half wound down until Boyce scored two minutes into the new half to put Wellsboro up 3-2. Again Wellsboro's lead was short-lived as the Lady Black Knights scored a minute later on another Chandler goal to tie it back up at 3-3.
The score remained tied until the 59th minute as a corner kick by Alyssa Yungwirth was headed into the net by Poirier to put the Lady Hornets back in front. Wellsboro's final goal came with 15 minutes remaining as Clymer cleaned up a missed shot on a header.
Wyalusing 8, Williamson 3
Madison Armitage had a hat trick, Summer McGrath scored 2 goals, and Sarah Bird, Haley Jayne, and Marissa Kusmierz all scored goals in the Lady Rams NTL soccer win Saturday.
Kirsten Green had a hat trick for Williamson.
Boys Soccer
Millville 6, Line Mountain 0
The Quakers only needed 10 shots on goal to score 6 for the shutout victory Saturday. Line Mountain took 5 shots on goal; 2 each by Jake Foulds and Phil Phillips and 1 by Josh Foulds. Goalie Damien Moore made 4 saves in goal for the Eagles.
Nativity 8, Shamokin 2
The Indians' Dalton Madara and Franco Bolzonella scored in the loss to Nativity Saturday that saw Nativity outshoot Shamokin 21-4. Nativity also had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Shamokin's Hunter Bates had 13 saves in goal while Nativity saved two shots.
Wellsboro 6, Williamson 0
The Hornets got two penalty kick goals from Tanner Runyan to knock off previous league unbeaten Williamson on Saturday for their third straight shutout victory. Cam Tennis scored unassisted as he cleaned up a corner kick off the post by senior captain Gabe Leach. Four minutes later, Leach assisted Brett Rudy to make it 2-0.
The score remained unchanged for the next 30+ minutes until Kaeden Mann scored. Mann cleaned up a shot attempt by Nic Ingerick that bounced off the goalie and directly back to him for an easy goal to make it 3-0 with 30 minutes remaining in the second half.
Another Leach corner kick, this time to Holden Kennedy, put Wellsboro up 4-0 before the Hornets closed out the game on Runyan's penalty kicks.
Lewisburg 4, Midd-West 2
The Green Dragons scored three first half goals to earn a PHAC soccer win Saturday. Lewisburg opened the scoring at 39:11 on a goal by Austin Gerliniski with an assist from Tom Bhangdia. Lewisburg's Ben Liscum scored with 26:01 remaining in the first off an assist from Ryan Veloz to push the score to 2-0.
Midd-West cut the Green Dragons' lead in half with 19:43 left on a Devan Leister goal from Cole Sauer.
Liscum added another goal to push the score to 3-1 with 12:35 remaining. The score stayed 3-1 in favor of Lewisburg until there was 9:04 remaining in the second when Sauer scored his second goal to cut it to 3-2. Lewisburg's James Koconis scored to make it 4-2 with 5:49.
The Mustangs took 12 shots to Lewisburg's 10 and had a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks. Ethan Knepp made 3 saves in goal for Midd-West and Sam Miller recorded 2 for Lewisburg.
Sayre 3, Galeton 1
Sam Vandermark opened the scoring on a cross from Jordan Rockwell in the 12th minute. Sam Wheeler scored off a Nick Bentley assist with 17 minutes left in the first half and the teams went to the half with Sayre up 2-0. Sayre went up 3-0 five minutes into the second half off a corner kick by Cody Vanbenthuysen that Rockwell put in the back of the net with a header.
Isiah Martinez scored for Galeton with 15 minutes left to finish the scoring.
"Our defense hung tough with Galeton applying a lot of pressure in the second half," said Sayre head coach Randy Rockwell. "Camden Wheeler played his best game yet with 20 saves and keeps getting better every game and tonight he made some really tough saves to protect the lead. This is a really good win for us against a quality Galeton team."
Athens 4, Northeast Bradford 2
Ethan Lane scored a hat trick in the Wildcats' win over NEB Saturday. Lane scored with just over three minutes into the game off an assist from Brad Cardona and Willey Tilley. Aaron Lane then put Athens up 2-0 with 22:13 remaining. Ethan Lane scored his second goal at 31:19 of the second half to make it 3-1 then later scored at 12:38 on another Cardona assist.
NEB's Maxon Cooper and Collin Cowles both scored. Cooper's goal came between Ethan Lane's two second half goals while Cowles scored on a penalty kick with 2:53 left to play.
