Senior Josiah Hill was named to his second consecutive Pennsylvania Soccer Coaches Association's All-State team on Saturday, January 28.
"Being selected as an All-State player back-to-back years is a great accomplishment for me," Hill said. "I am thankful for the opportunities soccer has provided me and this could not have been possible without my coaches and players over the last two years. They deserve just as much credit as I do."
Hill reached the 50 goal plateau as a junior and shattered the previous Wellsboro Boys Soccer record of 56 goals held by Darby Alafoginis against Williamson. Hill finished his playing career as Wellsboro Soccer's all-time leading goal scorer with 94 career goals, 41 of which were scored in his senior year. The previous record of 82 was held by Alexis Getty.
In addition to his second All-State nod, Hill also received national recognition by the NSCAA (National Soccer Coaches Association) on their All-Region East Region team, made up of seven states.
"It is a great honor for Josiah to be named a two-time All-State player and this year to be also selected by the NSCAA as an All-Region player for the East Region," said head coach John Shaffer. "It is nothing more than he deserves for all of his accomplishments in his high school career. I was lucky to have Josiah as a player for four years and he will be missed. I hope that Josiah's accomplishments set a new goal for future players to strive for. In my seven years as the boys head coach I have had players selected as All-State 4 times, it is my hope that Josiah has encouraged the future players to continue that tradition."
WellsboroAthletics.com and WellsboroSoccer.com would like to congratulate Josiah on all his accomplishments, and thank him for all his hard work and dedication to the Wellsboro Soccer program during his career.
