Hosey's end track season at PIAA State Championships

By: Ed Weaver | PIAA District IV | May 28, 2017

The brother and sister duo of senior Dupree Hosey and sophomore Dahlia Hosey ended the 2017 track & field season at the PIAA Championships at Shippensburg University on Friday, May 26 and Saturday, May 27.

On Friday, Dupree finished 25th in the long jump at 19-ft, 10-in.

"Dupree did amazing things in his two years in track and field," said head coach Elizabeth Hoover. "He ended his career at the PIAA State championship meet and finished ranked in the top 25 in the state. I think he was a little disappointed in his performance, but he should not be disappointed with his hard work and dedication this past season. It has been a pleasure watching his accomplishments this year."

In his second season of track Dupree improved tremendously from year one. Dupree hit his stride towards the end of 2016 at the NTL Championships, jumping 20-ft, 1-in in the long jump, 39-ft, 5.75-in in the triple jump, and 5-ft, 6-in in the high jump. Dupree shattered all of those in 2017, jumping 21-ft, 7-in in the long jump, 41-ft in the triple jump, and 6-ft in the high jump.

On Saturday, Dahlia jumped a career-best 36-ft, 9-in in the triple jump. 2017 was the first year Dahlia triple jumped.

"I did not think I was going to do that. I didn't even think I was going to make it to finals. I PR'd first or second jump," Dahlia said. "I was very much behind the board."

Dahlia started the year off jumping 30-ft, by the District IV Championships she was at 36-ft, and at states she improved 6 inches from her last previous jump.

"I am excited to do my next two years."

Hoover was very proud of her sophomore jumper.

"She went from 14th to 4th in the state," proclaimed Hoover. "She was even quite a few inches behind the entire board in her last jump, she had an exceptional day at states. Coach Dean Frutchey has a great rapport with his jumping crew and it showed this weekend! They trust him to tweak their approach each and every jump. And today, Dahlia hit two PRs and received a fourth place finish!"
