Hughesville boys shuts out Shamokin, Wellsboro tops South

The Hughesville and Wellsboro boys soccer teams recorded lopsided victories in their first games of the season on Saturday, September 2.

Hughesville 9, Shamokin 0

The Spartans' Austin Lewis recorded a hat trick and added a fourth goal on the day to pick up the PHAC win. Ryan Strimple and Justus Leighow scored 2 goals each and Isaiah Savage scored once.

The Spartans outshot Shamokin 17-2 and had an 7-2 advantage in corners. Hughesville's Steven Millheim and Austin Sheatler combined to make 2 saves in goal and Shamokin's Hunter Bates stopped 8 shots.

Wellsboro 6, South Williamsport 1

Wellsboro's Nolan Lohr socred two goals to help lead the Hornets past South Williamsport in both team's season openers. Gabe Leach, Tanner Runyan, Brett Rudy and Cam Tennis each scored one goal for Wellsboro, Leach added three assists, and Runyan and Rudy each had one. Wellsboro outshot South 30-8 and held the edge in corners, 10-1.

Williamsport 7, Loyalsock 2

The Millionaires scored four first-period goals in their first win of the season. Tiarnan Ferry scored two goals and Tom Pombor and Zach Sawyer each added goals. In the second period Pombor, Jeremiah Williams, and Liam Ferry all scored.

Alek Hamilton and Matt Barone scored the Lancers goals, both in the second period.

Sam Hillman (2), Leo Daverio, Amani Pran, and Lucas Taveras assisted on Williamsport's goals as the Millionaires outshot Loyalsock 17-7 (7-4 corners). Connor Rude made 8 saves for the Lancers while J.R. Confair (5) and Nate Towley (2) combined for 7 saves for Williamsport.

Mark Kissinger Tournament

Shikellamy 2, Line Mountain 0

The Braves scored 2 goals despite Line Mountain actually scoring first, but the goal was waved off on an offsides call. Teagan Hepworth made 11 saves for the Eagles.

Line Mountain 4, Mt. Carmel 0

Jake Foulds, Griffin Smeltz, Phil Phillips, and Josh Foulds all scored goals to shut out the Red Tornadoes. The Eagles recorded 19 shots on goal and goalkeeper Damien Moore had 3 saves.

Muncy 3, Mt. Carmel 0

Nathan Paisley, Bryce Phillips, and Tyler Girven scored the Indians' goals in the shutout of the Red Tornadoes. Muncy outshot Mt. Carmel 15-3 and Muncy's Josh Hall made 3 saves.

Shikellamy 3, Muncy 1

The Braves jumped out to an early lead in the 16th minute on a J. Richev goal before the Indians tied it up 10 minutes later by Bryce Bryce Phillips. Shikellamy's Aiden Cooper (36:00) and Micah Inch (45:00) scored the other two goals in the win.

Hall saved 11 shots in goal for Muncy.

Galeton Tournament

The Tigers won their tournament Saturday with a 2-0 win over NTL rival Williamson. Isaiah Shuemaker and Joey Bumbauch each scored one goal for Galeton while Joel Brelo had one assist. Brandon Ruef finished with nine saves for Galeton, and his counterpart, Jay Robbins, finished with 18 for Williamson. Galeton outshot Williamson 21-10, but Williamson held the edge in corners 6-5.

Sayre 6, Northern Potter 3

The Redskins' Jordan Rockwell recorded a hat trick in their win over Northern Potter in the Galeton Tournament consolation game. Sam VanDermark had two goals and Cody VanBenthuysen scored his first varsity goal. Sam Wheeler assisted on three goals for the Redskins.

Cam Wheeler recorded 12 saves for Sayre and Holden Cowburn made six for Northern Pottter.
