The Wellsboro Lady Hornets rolled to their fourth straight win by beating Towanda 50-26 on Wednesday, January 4.

"We've been playing pretty good as a team," said junior Lizzie Poirier on winning four straight. "We still have some stuff to clean up, but overall a good team win tonight."

After a 12-12 first quarter, the Lady Hornets caught fire and outscored the Black Knights 13-2 to put the game firmly in their control. Poirier scored 8 of her game-high 20 points in the quarter, with junior Rachael Tuttle and seniors Jessica Grab and Autum Kitajima also scoring. At the half, Wellsboro had a commanding 25-14 lead.

"It started out a little rough but they pulled together and it was a good team win," said head coach John Davis. "They played unselfish and all the girls contributed very well."

In the second half, Wellsboro outscored Towanda 25-12. Poirier added her remaining 9 points and Grab hit three more buckets before the younger Lady Hornets entered the game.

Poirier added 7 rebounds to go along with her 20 points, Grab scored 10 points, and Tuttle had 6 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore Emma Poirier added 5 points and 6 boards, senior Janessa Davis and Kitajima each finished with 3, freshman Cathryn Brought scored 2, and sophomore Heidi Zuchowski rounded out the scoring with 1.

Tuttle, Davis, and Kitajima all finished with 3 steals, Davis led the team with 8 assists, and Kitajima pitched in 7.

In the JV game the Lady Hornets held on for a 23-20 win to improve to 5-3. Zuchowski led the Lady Hornets with 12 points.

The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 6-3 (5-0 NTL). The team will be back in action on Friday, January 6 at rival North Penn-Mansfield.

"We have to be ready to go," Davis said of the upcoming rivalry game. "We need to have a good practice and get ready to go Friday."
