The Wellsboro Volleyball teams each suffered losses on the road against rivals North Penn-Liberty on Thursday, October 12.
The night started off with Liberty's JV team handing Wellsboro a 2-0 loss in close sets. Liberty won the first set 26-24 and the second 25-21. Liberty has been the only team to beat Wellsboro in JV games this year.
In the Varsity game, Liberty swept Wellsboro 3-0.
The first set was back-and-forth between both teams. Liberty eventually went up 23-20 late in the set on a monster kill from Brooke Harvey. Wellsboro battled back as senior Brianne Keane set up sophomore Megan Starkweather for a cross-court kill to pull Wellsboro back to within 2, but the Lady Mounties closed out the set after a long volley as Maddison Minyo tapped the ball over the net and Wellsboro was unable to handle it, giving Liberty a 25-23 win.
Liberty dominated the second set and cruised to a 25-11 victory. The third set, however, resembled the first set's back-and-forth play. Each team kept the score close and this time, the Lady Hornets had a late lead. Up 21-20 with the serve, Liberty's Elli Fry tied it up at 21-21 on a block, then Wellsboro later tied it at 23-23 on a tip from sophomore Caitlyn Callahan.
Liberty would go on to take the set 25-23, and the match, as the Lady Hornets were unable to return Charisma Grega's final serve.
