The Wellsboro Middle School Basketball teams picked up wins over Canton on Wednesday, February 8.
The Lady Hornets won their A game 24-12. After building a 7-0 lead in the first Wellsboro led the rest of the way for their second win of the season. Wellsboro led 11-4 at the half and 16-10 after the third.
"We had a nice team win tonight," said head coach Darrell Morris. "I was pleased with our balance and our team passing tonight as eight girls got in the scoring column. We have been getting better each game."
Chelsie English had 5 points and 11 rebounds, Kiyah Boyce had 4 points and 4 rebounds, Bailey Monks had 4 points and 4 rebounds, Lindsey Marmara had 4 points, Emma Pietropola, Emma Brandenburg, and Abbye Cavanaugh had 2 points each, and Sarah Mosher had 1 point, 4 assists, and 3 steals.
The B team girls also won 27-2. LMarmara had 8 points, Brandenburg had 6 points, Emma Coolidge and Olivia Servatius had 4 points each, Kathryn Burnett had 3 points, and Pietropola had 2 points.
In the boys game, Wellsboro won 46-38 for their fifth win of the season. Wellsboro trailed 16-11 after the first and cut the lead down to 24-22 at halftime. The Hornets continued to chip away and cut the lead to a point after the third before breaking the game open in the fourth by outscoring the Warriors 14-5.
Joseph Grab led Wellsboro with 28 points and 10 rebounds, Nevin DeCosta and Isaac Keane had 6 points each, Will Poirier had 4, and Danny Timmons had 2. DeCosta added 3 steals, Poirier had 4 assists, and Keane had 2 rebounds.
Wellsboro's B team also won on the night, 14-11 to improve to 2-1. Owen Richardson led the way with 4 points. Timmons, Aidan Coffee, Dylan Abernathy, Andrew Janelli, and Trevor Hackett all scored 2 points each.
Both teams will be on the road in Mansfield on Saturday morning, February 11.
