ATHENS — Athens' big four got bonus point victories but Danville had little trouble with the rest of the Wildcat line-up as the Ironmen upset the Wildcats 52-27 in District IV Duals first round action Wednesday.
A.J. Burkhart (132) and Chris Horton (126) both got falls for Athens while Nate Bradley (170) scored a technical fall and David Galasso (160) had a major decision. Keegan Braund (285) recorded a forfeit for Athens as well.
Danville, though, recorded six falls and won nine of the 14 bouts.
The Ironmen got pins in the first three matches as Andrew Johnson (106) pinned Bailey Poarch in 49 seconds, Logan Watkins (113) pinned Kyler Setzer in 53 seconds and Braydon Sarviss (120) pinned David Nickson in 50 seconds to make it 18-0.
Back to back falls by Horton over Cam Whitney in 1:05 and Burkhart over Seth Moyer in 2:24 cut it to 18-12 but that's as close as it got.
Danville earned two more falls and a major decision to put the match away.
Kaiden Kurzawa (138) pinned Devin Sweat in 1:07, Evan Welliver (145) pinned Collin Martin in 1:56 and Joey Harris (152) won 17-4 over Zack Starfursky.
Danville led 34-12 after that run.
Galasso stopped the bleeding with a 15-6 win over Eric Sees to cut it to 34-16.
Bradley used a 16-1 technical fall in 6:00 over Matt Dunkle to make it 34-21 but at 182 Zach Zerbe got the fall over Jon Vough in 3:06.
After that Athens forfeited to Mike Cooke (195) and Wes Beaver (220) while Danville forfeited to Braund to end the match.
