Sophomore Caitlyn Callahan was recently named to the Pennsylvania Volleyball Coaches Association Class AA All-State Team.
In Class AA 48 girls from the state are selected to the All-State team.
Callahan had a breakout year for the Lady Hornets as she racked up 211 kills, 40 aces, 124 points, and 62 solo blocks (64 total) and helped lead Wellsboro to a 19-5 overall record (12-3 NTL Large School Division) and a trip to the PIAA District IV Class AA playoffs.
During this past offseason Callahan played for three different travel teams (Nightmare 15U,16U and 18U) in 17 tournaments and over 270 sets of volleyball from January to July; represented the state of Pennsylvania in Ft. Lauderdale, FL as a member of the KRVA Pennsylvania High-Performance Volleyball team (12 players from around the state were chosen as part of the USA Olympic Pipeline); and made the USA National Team that was to play in Grand Rapids, MI but chose the High-Performance instead.
"I'm really excited to be named to the All-State Team," Callahan said. "It is a real honor that reflects all of the hard work I put in over the offseason to become a better player. There are a lot of great players from the state on the list. I'm proud and thankful to be one of them."
Wellsboro head coach Sharon Zuchowski is proud that Callahan received the honor. Since Zuchowski took over the program in 2012, Callahan is the third All-State player she has coached, joining Hannah Zuchowski (2012) and Kirsten Florio (2016).
"I was pleased to hear that Caitlyn was selected as an All-State player," said Zuchowski. "She had a fantastic season and played a major role in the success of the team this year. For her to be named as an All-State player as a sophomore is a great accomplishment. I am proud of Caitlyn and I hope she continues to work hard and set new goals in this sport."
