Clymer hat trick leads Lady Hornets past Williamson

Sophomore Kerrah Clymer scored a hat trick to lead the Wellsboro Girls Soccer team to an 8-0 win over Williamson on Thursday, September 13.

Clymer scored the game's first goal unassisted with 36:43 showing on the clock to put Wellsboro up early. Not even two minutes later Clymer assisted junior Cathryn Brought to make it 2-0. Clymer struck for the second time with 27:10 left on the clock, as she took a long pass from freshman Cara Tennis to make it 3-0.

Midway through the half senior Emma Poirier found the back of the net for the first of her two goals. With 23:51 on the clock Poirier was assisted by senior Sophie Abadi to give the Lady Hornets a 4-0 lead, then scored her second goal with 12:38 left on the clock on an assist from senior Luna Alexander.

Wellsboro's final goal of the half came with 4 minutes left before halftime as senior Jessica McCarthy came up with the ball in Wellsboro territory then advanced the ball up to sophomore Jena Boyce. Boyce then went on a breakaway and sent a shot past the goalie to give the Lady Hornets a 6-0 lead at intermission.

The Lady Hornets scored a pair of goals in the second half. The first came on a corner kick from Poirier that Boyce headed in to push the lead to 7-0 then with just under six minutes remaining Clymer completed her hat trick off an assist from Boyce.

Wellsboro outshot Williamson 28-2 and took 17 corner kicks. Freshman keeper Lilly Abadi recorded 1 save in goal for earn the shutout.

"We knew coming in that they didn't have a lot, but weren't trying to run the score up," head coach Scott Burrous said. "We tried different girls to score and got different girls to score. It was fun. One of our goals is to prepare for districts and sometimes you can move people around when you ge the opportunities to see who can play these positions."

In the JV game Wellsboro won 2-0 on goals by Cara Tennis and freshman Hannah Morey.

The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 3-1 (3-1 NTL). The team will be back in action on Saturday, September 15 as they host Loyalsock.
