The Wellsboro Middle School Girls Basketball team improved to 2-0 with a 26-17 win over rival North Penn-Mansfield on Friday, February 9.
The young Lady Hornets held a slim 6-2 lead after the first, then extended it to 10-4 at the half. The Lady Hornets then went on a tear in the third with 10 points to seal the victory.
"Our girls did a nice job tonight with 26 points and 26 rebounds against a tough Mansfield team," said head coach Darrell Morris. "We still need to take care of the basketball better and close out the game stronger, but the girls showed a lot of improvement from our first game to this game, and that is always the goal."
Emma Brandenburg (11 rebounds) and Emma Coolidge (3 rebounds, 2 steals, 3 assists) had 8 points each, Emma Pietropola had 4 points and 5 rebounds, and Lindsey Marmara, Rylie Boyce, and Ella Posada had 2 points each.
Wellsboro also won the B game 36-18. Rylie Boyce had 12 points, Jordyn Abernathy and Ella Posada had 8 points each, Molly Ingerick had 6 points, and Hailee Kerr added 2 points.
Both Middle School teams are in action this morning as they take on Sayre.
