The Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team clinched a spot in the District IV Class AAA playoffs following a 49-24 win over Williamson on Friday, February 8.
The Lady Hornets outscored Williamson 29-9 in the first half then held them to 15 points over the final 16 minutes. Wellsboro scored 20 points over their over during that span, to secure their 11th win of the season.
Senior Emma Poirier led all scorers with a game-high 22 points. Junior Cathryn Brought had 6 points, senior Dani Hunt had 5, sophomores Jena Boyce, Sarah Mosher, and Bailey Monks all had 4 points, and senior Heidi Zuchowski and sophomore Kiyah Boyce added 2 points each.
Boyce, Zuchowski, and Brought all had 4 rebounds each, Brought had 4 steals, Monks blocked 3 shots, and Mosher had 3 assists.
There was no JV game.
The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 11-9 (11-3 NTL Large School Division). The girls turn right around and face Williamson later this afternoon.
