A career-high 34 points from senior Cathryn Brought led the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Basketball team past Wyalusing, 59-48, on Thursday, January 16.

"It was a good team win on the road," head coach Maureen Poirier said. "The girls played hard for 4 full quarters."

The Lady Hornets held a slim 18-15 lead after the 1st quarter then the defense shut down the Lady Hornets in the 2nd by limiting them to 5 points off two field goals to build a 28-20 lead at the half. Wyalusing rallied in the 3rd and did outscored Wellsboro, 15-10, but Wellsboro held on to a three-point, 38-35, lead heading into the final quarter.

Wellsboro saved their best for last as they scored 21 points over the final 8 minutes to widen their lead and end a two-game losing streak.

Brought hit 11 shots from the floor, including three 3-pointers along with going 9-for-12 at the foul line, which tied her for 3rd all-time in Wellsboro girls basketball history with Sherri Bowen.

Sophomore Emma Coolidge returned to the lineup and added 8 points, junior Bailey Monks finished with 7, sophomore Abbye Cavanaugh added 6, and freshman Jordyn Abernathy and sophomore Emma Brandenburg added 2 points each.

The win improves the Lady Hornets' record to 5-6 (5-4 NTL Large School Division). The team is back in action on Monday, January 20 when they host rival North Penn-Mansfield.
