Selinsgrove wins two at Turf Fest

By: Selinsgrove Athletics | PIAA District IV | September 20, 2020

Through the first three games of the season, the Selinsgrove field hockey defense hadn't been tested much.

That ended in the final game of Turf Fest against Bloomsburg, but the Seals passed the test with flying colors.

Riley Batdorf made 12 saves to make Jess Alba's third-period goal stand up in Selinsgrove's 1-0 win over Bloomsburg.

Selinsgrove (4-0) won its opener at Turf Fest over Mifflinburg, 3-0.

In the game against Bloomsburg, Alba scored off an assist from Marley Showers with 6:04 left in the third quarter for the only goal of the game. Selinsgrove led in shots (17-13), while the Panthers led in corners (13-9).

In the opener, the game with Mifflinburg remained a one-goal contest for most of the second half after Alli Bucher gave Selinsgrove a 1-0 lead with 7:41 left in the second quarter.

Alba added two goals in the fourth period for Selinsgrove. Liv Reichley assisted on the first, while Hannah Smullen and Hannah Day were credited with assists on the second goal.
