WILLIAMSPORT - Selinsgrove seniors Fiona Finnerty and Avery DeFazio each advance to the District 4 Girls Tennis singles semifinals on Monday at Williamsport High School.
The two advance to Wednesday (Oct. 13) at the Central Pennsylvania Tennis Club in South Williamsport for the semifinals and finals. Finnerty will face Peyton Dincher of Jersey Shore, while DeFazio get top-seed and defending district champion Olivia Dorner of South Williamsport in the semifinals.
Finnerty as the No. 7-seed received a bye in the first round. DeFazio opened with a straight set victory over Mallorie Myers of Montoursville, 6-4, 6-0.
In the second round, DeFazio faced the No. 5-seed Hannah Ryck of Towanda. The two split sets 6-4, before DeFazio picked up the victory with a 7-2 win in the third-set tiebreak. Finnerty beat Mya Coyne of Bloomsburg in a close match, 6-4, 6-4.
Surprisingly, both had easier times in the quarterfinals, winning in straight sets.
DeFazio beat No. 4 seed Katie Kilgore of Hughesville, 6-3, 6-1.FInnerty beat Mia Blas of Loyalsock, 6-4, 6-0.
