The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team rebounded following an early goal to cruise past Williamson 7-1 on Thursday, October 6.
"I thought we had good defensive pressure tonight," head coach Todd Fitch said. "Our speed of play, use of space, and finishing continues to improve. I am very pleased with the boys effort and execution."
The Warriors scored in the first three and a half minutes on a penalty kick to take an early lead, but after that Wellsboro scored 7 straight goals to claim their 5th straight win. Sophomore Alex Citrino tied the game up with 23 minutes remaining in the opening half then with 10:24 to go junior Caden Smith took a pass from senior Peyton McClure and headed the ball in to give the Hornets the lead.
Wellsboro went on a 5-0 tear in the second, starting with another Smith goal from Citrino 13 minutes in. Citrino scored for the second time of the night two minutes later. McClure got in on the scoring with 34:21 remaining off a corner by sophomore Lucas Cuneo. Seniors Sam Rudy and Jack Poirier scored the final two goals.
Wellsboro took 23 shots on goal and held Williamson to 8 and had a 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior Aiden Gehman made both saves.
Williamson won the JV game 1-0, with the goal coming off of a penalty kick in the first half.
The win improves the Hornets' record to 11-2 (10-0 NTL). The team is back in action at Montoursville on Saturday.
