The Wellsboro Varsity Boys recorded their fourth consecutive shut out following a 6-0 win over Troy on Saturday, September 10.

"I am happy for the win and very proud of how the boys are getting the result," head coach Todd Fitch said after the win. "With that said, the season is still young and we can't look past anyone."

Senior Sam Rudy opened the scoring at the 35:31 mark on a penalty kick after getting fouled in the box. The Hornets proceeded to add four more goals in the opening half. Senior Jack Poirier scored the game's second goal on a follow-up shot off the crossbar at 29:06, then sophomore Lucas Cuneo converted a header off an assist from fellow sophomore Alex Citrino to make it 3-0 midway through the half.

Sophomore Jack Bryant increased the lead to 4-0 in favor of Wellsboro with 14:21 showing on the clock, then Rudy capped the scoring in the first half with 12:51 remaining as Poirier centered the ball to him.

The Hornets' final goal was scored by Citrino on another penalty shot after Citrino was tripped in the box.

Senior Aiden Gehman and junior Mitchell Butler combined for the shut out, making 1 save. Wellsboro's defense limited the Trojans to just 2 shot attempts in the game while the Hornets took 19. Wellsboro also had a 12-0 advantage in corner kicks.

There was no JV game.

The win improves the Hornets' record to 4-0 (3-0 NTL). The team is back in action at home on Monday, September 12 against North Penn-Liberty. Game time is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
