Hornets take 2nd at Senior Night tri-meet

The Wellsboro Track teams brought home two 2nd place finishes against Wyalusing and Canton during Senior Night on Tuesday, May 3.

The boys team scored 65 points, just 5 behind Wyalusing (70), and Canton finished 3rd with 50. The girls team was 2nd with 71 points. Wyalusing won with 86.5 points and Canton was 3rd with 31.5.

"Justice and Blaise are 4-year veterans and extremely helpful in helping the newbies at practice," commented head coach Jill Gastrock. "They are both dependable and supportive. Justice has contributed many places/points for team standing both in high jump and throws. Riley and Lucas are commendable for coming out in their senior year. They seemed to enjoy trying something new and I was proud of their growth!"

"These girls have worked hard to get to this point," said head coach Elizabeth Hoover. "They got shut down as sophomores and ran with masks as juniors. They've shown great leadership at the times when it was truly needed. They've excelled in their perspective events, and I've enjoyed watching them grow as athletes and young ladies! I have no doubt that they will be successful in whatever they pursue in the future."

For the boys junior Jack Poirier won both the 100m (11.39) and the 200m (24.21) with sophomore Dillion Boyce (11.84, 25.57) finishing 2nd in both races. Freshman Jack Bryant (12.17) was 3rd in the 100m, freshman Joseph Busch (59.39) was 2nd in the 400m, freshman Chris Greenawalt (5:29.49) was 5th in the 1600m, freshman Micah Vickery was 2nd in the 110m hurdles (18.86) and 2nd in the 300m hurdles (49.0). Junior Aden Tom (52.46) was 3rd in the 300m hurdles.

Wellsboro won the 4x100m relay in 46.21. Wyalusing took both the 4x400m and the 4x800m.

Juniors Kyle Mosher (5-ft, 6) and Aiden Gehman (5-ft, 6) were 2nd and 3rd in the high jump, junior Spencer Wetzel (10-ft, 9) won the pole vault, Gehman (20-ft) and Poirier (18-ft, 10.5) were 1st and 2nd in the long jump, and Gehman (40-ft, 1.25) won the triple jump.

Junior Wyatt Gastrock (37-ft, 2) was 4th in the shot put and 6th in the discus (104-ft, 5), and sophomore Watson Feil (120-ft, 5) and sophomore Noah Morey (119-ft, 8.5) were 2nd and 3rd in the javelin.

For the girls junior Kate DeCamp was 4th in the 100m (14.25) and 2nd in the 200m (29.98), sophomore Emily Richardson (1:08.15) was 3rd in the 400m, sophomore Sara Seeling (2:41.87) was 2nd in the 800m, junior Madeline Gage (6:21.18) was 2nd in the 1600m, and sophomore Madison Robbins (16:43.49) was 4th in the 3200m. Wellsboro swept the 100m hurdles with junior Liliana Cueno (19.14), junior Ella Posada (19.69), and sophomore Hannalee Cleveland (20.02) taking home 1st through 3rd. Cueno (55.43) and Posada (56.03) were 1st and 2nd in the 300m hurdles, freshman Annie Gehman (4-ft, 11) won the high jump, was 2nd in the long jump (14-ft, 7.5) and won the triple jump (30-ft, 7).

The Lady Hornets were 2nd in the 4x100m (55.5), 3rd in the 4x400m (5:00.88), and 2nd in the 4x800m (12:05.33).

Senior Emma Coolidge won the shot put (27-ft, 9) and the javelin (98-ft, 3) and sophomore Hannah Gilmour (72-ft, 3) won the discus.

The teams are back in action at the Coudersport Booster Invite on Friday.
