The Wellsboro Girls Basketball team went 0-2 at the Muncy Rotary Tournament over the weekend on Friday, December 9 and Saturday, December 10.
Against Muncy, the Lady Hornets fell 48-35. The Lady Hornets trailed 13-6 after the 1st quarter and couldn't dig their way back into the game.
Sophomore Chloe Brandenburg led Wellsboro in scoring with 16 points, sophomore Paige Logsdon had 8, junior Maddy Mascho had 5 points, senior Ella Posada added 4, and junior Emily Richardson added 2 points. Logsdon added 6 rebounds and a block, Posada had 2 steals and a rebound, Mascho added 2 rebounds and 2 steals, Brandenburg had 3 rebounds and a block, and Richardson added 5 rebounds.
"We battled and gave a very good veteran Muncy team all they could handle, head coach Darrell Morris said. Some missed layups, a few times not boxing out, and missed free throws cost us tonight. But our girls went all out and really competed for four quarters."
On Saturday against Benton the Lady Hornets fell 34-29 despite leading 10-7 after the opening quarter.
Brandenburg led Wellsboro with 11 points, Logsdon added 6, Posada finished with 5, senior Hailie Kerr added 4, and Mascho rounded out the scoring with 3 points. Logsdon added 15 rebounds and 2 blocks, Posada grabbed 5 rebounds, Mascho had 4 rebounds and a steal, Brandenburg had 5 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals, Richardson added 2 rebounds and a steal, and Kerr pitched in 5 rebounds and 2 steals.
Wellsboro (1-2, 1-0 NTL Large School Division) is back in action against Northeast Bradford tomorrow night.
