Five second half goals by the Wellsboro Varsity Girls Soccer team led them to a season-opening win over rival North Penn-Mansfield on Thursday, September 1.
After a scoreless 1st half senior Jordyn Abernathy and junior Sara Seeling each scored a pair of goals, while junior Emily Richardson added the remaining one, to shut out the Lady Tigers.
The Lady Hornets held North Penn-Mansfield to just a single shot attempt on the afternoon, which was saved by sophomore Annie Gehman to record a clean sheet. Wellsboro took 16 shots on goal, with the Lady Tigers' Tierney Patterson making 11 stops.
Wellsboro also had a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
The win starts the Lady Hornets out at 1-0 (1-0 NTL). The team is back on the field Saturday in a non-league game against Hughesville at home.
