ATHENS — Canton couldn't make an early lead stick as they fell 4-2 to Athens during NTL baseball action.
The Warriors led 1-0 after the first, and made it 2-0 after the top of the fifth. However, Athens scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 3-2 lead.
The Wildcats added a safety run in the sixth for the 2-run win.
Holden Ward (3-for-4) had a multi-hit game with two runs scored, while Michael Beers (2-for-3) had a double. Leo Karpinski (2-for-3), and Cooper Kitchen (1-for-4) both hit the ball, with Kitchen's hit a double.
Weston Bellows added an RBI.
Kitchen got the start, and kept Athens hitless through the first half of the game. However, he was pulled after four and a 1/3-innings, striking out one with one walk, three hits, and three runs, two of which were earned.
Ward finished out, striking out three with one walk, one hit, and one unearned run.
