The Wellsboro Varsity Boys Soccer team dropped their second straight match in a 3-2 loss to Montoursville on Monday, September 19.
"We lost the match tonight but our level of play was much improved since our match on Saturday," head coach Todd Fitch said.
The Hornets trailed 1-nil as the Warriors scored the game's first goal midway through the 1st half. Wellsboro tied the game with 5:36 remaining as senior Jack Poirier shot a header off an assist from senior Sam Rudy and sophomore Lucas Cuneo.
Wellsboro later took the lead 10 minutes into the second half as junior Caden Smith scored off a Poirier assist following his corner kick.
Montoursville, however, scored two more goals to go ahead for the win.
Wellsboro had a slight 7-6 edge over Montoursville in corner kicks, but the Warriors out shot the Hornets 14-11. Senior Aiden Gehman made 8 saves.
Wellsboro won the JV game 1-nil to improve the team's record to 4-1. Freshman Jacoby Strang scored the goal, assisted by sophomore River Moyer.
The loss drops the Hornets to 6-2 overall. They are still undefeated in the NTL with a 5-0 record. The Hornets resume league play on Wednesday, September 21 when they travel to North Penn-Liberty.
