The Wellsboro Varsity Wrestling team ended a six-match skid with a 42-22 win over Loyalsock on Thursday, January 12.
After no contests at 107 lbs. and 114 lbs., the Hornets opened the match at 121 lbs. as sophomore Alec Magli pinned Connor Phillips in 46 seconds to give Wellsboro a 6-0 lead. Loyalsock then tied the match up in the next bout before the Hornets rolled off three straight wins, two coming via forfeit for freshman Mason Nowak (133 lbs.) and sophomore Will Gastrock (139 lbs.) and a pin by sophomore Silas Mickey over Seth Janovitz in 22 seconds at 145 lbs. to put the Hornets back in front, 24-6.
After a loss at 152 lbs., Wellsboro ran off two more victories by sophomores Evan Ingerick and Ryder Bowen. Ingerick won by forfeit at 160 lbs. and Bowen pinned Ian Haines in 1:08 at 172 lbs., pushing the lead to 36-10.
Freshman Hayden Stevens won Wellsboro's final match of the evening via forfeit at 215 lbs.
In the Junior High match, the Lancers edged Wellsboro in a tight match, 24-18. Vincent Arena (94 lbs.), Gavin Carson (138 lbs.), and Conner Bacon (210 lbs.) scored victories for the Horents. Arena and Bacon both won by pin fall while Carson won via forfeit.
Wellsboro (2-6, 1-4 NTL) is back on the mats tomorrow evening at Troy.
