The Wellsboro Wrestling team traveled up to Addison, New York for a non-league match on Monday, January 30, and came home with a 42-20 win.
"I think we went out and wrestled hard tonight," head coach Bryce Bitner said. "A couple matches didn't go our way and we have some corrections to make. Overall we're happy with earning a win tonight and look forward to facing a tough Jersey Shore squad at home."
The Knights opened the match up with a win at 132 lbs but the Hornets quickly took over, winning the next seven matches. Sophomore Will Gastrock won via forfeit at 138 lbs. to start things off before Wellsboro picked up six consecutive pin falls.
Sophomore Silas Mickey pinned Kora Jones in 1:54 at 145 lbs., sophomore Jacob Dean pinned Spencer Westervelt in 1:59 at 152 lbs., sophomore Evan Ingerick defeated David Putnam in 2:34 at 160 lbs., sophomore Ryder Bowen scored a 41 second fall at 172 lbs. against Sky Robinson, senior Wyatt Gastrock pinned Newt Jones in 1:30 at 189 lbs., and freshman Hayden Stevens pinned Collin Brown in 2:22 at 215 lbs.
Addison took the next three matches. There were no matches at 102 or 110 lbs.
Wellsboro is back in action this evening against Jersey Shore. It will be Senior Night.
