The Wellsboro Varsity Wrestling team brought home a 13th place finish at the South Williamsport Mountaineer Tournament on Saturday, January 7.
The team scored 51 total points.
Five Hornets also placed in their respective weight classes on the day: sophomore Jacob Dean finished 3rd overall at 152 lbs., sophomore Ryder Bowen was 5th at 172 lbs., sophomore Silas Mickey placed 6th at 145 lbs., freshman Dominick Starkweather took home 8th at 285 lbs., and senior Aden Tom was 7th at 145 lbs.
Tom and Bowen won their opening round matches in their classes. After suffering a pin in the opening round, freshman Mason Nowak won his consolation round 1 match at 127 lbs. over Mount Carmel's Damien Klimas to say alive.
Mickey and Bowen both won their consolation round 2 match ups while Dean won his championship quarterfinal over the Red Tornadoes' Ben Miller, but then fell in the semi-finals to Pleasant Valley's Aldin Vukel by pin fall.
Mickey and Bowen again won their consolation semi-final matches and Tom won his 7th place match over Jason Kays' of Pleasant Valley.
Bowen won his 5th place match of Sugar Valley's Cayden Weaver and Dean won his 3rd place match up over Williams Valley's Ashton Gonder.
