Junior Chloe Brandenburg scored a game-high 19 points to lead Wellsboro to a 41-28 win over Benton in the consolation game of the Muncy Rotary Tournament on Saturday.
Wellsboro edged the Lady Tigers 13-10 in the first quarter then put some distance on Benton with an 11-6 second quarter. Wellsboro's defense then held Benton to just 12 points in the second half, and allowed just two points in the 4th quarter.
"We only had 7 varsity players available for the tournament this weekend," head coach Darrell Morris said. "I can't say enough about how these 7 girls just banded together and gave everything they had and got a win tonight. It was a fantastic effort."
Brandenburg's 19 points led all scorers in the game while senior Maddy Mascho added 10 points. Senior Emily Morris chipped in with 7 points and senior Emily Richardson added 5. Mascho also made 3 assists and a steal, Richardson made 2 steals, and senior Hannah Gilmour grabbed 6 rebounds. Mascho and Brandenburg also pulled down 5 boards.
Wellsboro (2-1, 1-0 NTL Large School Division) travels to Northeast Bradford Tuesday evening.
