SUNBURY - Once Reis Naugle upped his offensive aggressiveness against rival Shikellamy, the Braves had little answer.
MIx in the Seals' height advantage and it resulted in a rout of rival Shikellamy, 52-35, at Phil Lockcuff Gymnasium after plumbing issues at Selinsgrove High School forced a distance learning day, and forced a move of the game.
The return date for the schools - Jan. 27 - will now be a home game for Selinsgrove.
The Seals remain undefeated in HAC-I at 3-0, and will host a showdown with Shamokin, also 3-0, on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
Selinsgrove was just 1-of-8 to open the game, and went 8:28 without a field goal from the floor after Gavin Bastian's layup to open the scoring 44 seconds into the game. Naugle didn't attempt a shot in that span, and Shikellamy built a 10-3 lead after two Ryan Williams' foul shots with 6:05 left in the first half.
Naugle broke the Seals scoring drought with a 3-pointer, and would make a six of his shots in the second quarter. Selinsgrove was 9-of12 over the final 5:48 of the first half, and outscored Shikellamy 20-6 to end the first half. Selinsgrove would take a 23-17 lead into the break at halftime.
Both teams started the second half slow on offense, but Naugle knocked down his 2nd 3-pointer of the game, and Nate Cataldi hit two foul shots with 3:56 left in third quarter as as the Seals built a 28-17 lead.
Shikellamy would cut the lead to nine on a Brady Wilson three-point play with 1:11 left in the third, but the Braves never found an answer for Selinsgrove's length. At one point, Naugle, who finished with a game-high 28 points, had outscored the Braves 28-24 early in the fourth quarter himself.
Selinsgrove finished the game with 10 blocked shots and eight steals. The only downside for the Seals, and what kept Shikellamy in the game, was surprisingly the offensive glass. Counting team rebounds, the Braves had 23 on the offensive glass. Shikellamy outrebounded Selinsgrove, 40-34.
Naugle added seven rebounds, three steals and three blocks for Selinsgrove. Blake Haddon chipped in eight points, 10 rebounds, four blocks and two steals.
Mason Deitrich had 10 points and 11 rebounds for Shikellamy.
